In the summer of 2018, the Beneventis took a long-awaited trip to Italy. We met in Rome, and with our hostel (Funny Palace) as our home base, we explored several Roman landmarks--Colosseum, Spanish Steps, the Catacombs, the Pantheon and more. We then drove to Tuscany and moved into a lovely villa on an olive farm in the city of Pescia. The scenery was breathtaking. We made use of the pool and the hot tub, but we may have enjoyed the pizza oven most. On one of our last days in Italy, we drove for two hours on winding, mountain roads to Riolunato, the home of great-grandfather Settimo Beneventi. The granddaughter of Settimo's younger brother Diomede was the current mayor. She located Settimo's birth records and showed us the house where he lived until he emigrated to the US in 1906. Riolunato was just one of the many memories we made in Italy. Truly, a trip of a lifetime!
